This Healthy Banana Bread recipe checks all the right boxes! It’s moist, sweet, and whipped up in a matter of minutes with healthier ingredients. You might just have everything you need in your kitchen right now!

Satisfy your sweet tooth with more recipes like Peanut Butter Streusel Banana Bread, Blueberry Banana Bread and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread.

sliced healthy banana bread on parchment paper with bananas around it.

This Healthy Banana Bread took me a few tries to perfect, but once I did there was no going back!

I believe that a good banana bread is like a good brownie. It needs no frosting, no glaze, no chocolate chips, no nuts, nothing. If it’s perfect banana bread, then that should be enough.

This is the only healthy Banana Bread recipe you need — it’s perfectly moist and needs no adornments (though you won’t see us judging if you add in chocolate chips!).

Why we love it:

  • Super Easy: It’s made in one bowl with a whisk and no mixer. Plus, all of the ingredients are basic baking staples.
  • Freezer Friendly: Scroll below for more info on how to freeze banana bread. This is one of my favorite treats to keep in my freezer for later!
  • Scrumptious: There’s really no better word to describe it. This banana bread always turns out so moist, perfectly sweet and loaded with fresh banana flavor.

Ingredients Needed for Classic Banana Bread

ingredients needed for healthy banana bread in glass bowls on grey surface.
  • Bananas – You’ll need 3 bananas for this quick bread recipe. If you have any extras hanging around, use them to make some adorable Banana Split Trifles or see How to Freeze Bananas.
  • Salt – Just a pinch of salt enhances the other flavors in the banana bread.
  • Baking Soda and Baking Powder – Did you know that both of these ingredients have expiration dates? Use both within 6 months of opening so they’re potent and get the job done.
  • Flours – You may notice that I use both whole wheat flour AND regular all-purpose flour. I love the texture that both flours create, and whole wheat flour adds a good amount of fibre. I make this recipe often with 100% whole wheat flour so that’s an option, too!
  • Cinnamon – You can add an extra sprinkle to really warm up the flavor.
  • Greek Yogurt – Be sure to use plain Greek yogurt with no additional flavors or sweeteners.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce – This creates the most incredible moisture and adds natural sweetness in banana bread. And no, it won’t make it taste like apples!
  • Eggs – These act as a binder for all of the other ingredients.
  • Sugar – Be sure to measure with care! You don’t want to add too much or too little – either error will affect the flavor of the bread.
  • Vanilla Extract – This is used to enhance the sweet flavor.

How to make Classic Banana Bread

Here’s a sneak peek at the step-by-step instructions! Scroll to the bottom of this page for more information and ingredient measurements.

  • Mash the bananas (I love using a potato masher to do this!)
  • Mix in the sugar, Greek yogurt and applesauce.
  • Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  • Add in the cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until just combined.
  • Add the flour into the batter and mix until combined.
  • Bake at 350°F for 50-60 minutes.

Banana Bread Variations and Substitutions

  • Make it 100% whole wheat: this healthy banana Bread already has a good amount of fibre, but I often make it with 100% whole wheat flour for extra fibre for my family! It turns out perfectly either way — simple swap the all purpose flour for whole wheat.
  • Add chocolate chips: While I like banana bread all by itself, you may be craving some chocolate! Feel free to sprinkle in some dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Add a crunch: Stir in some walnuts to give the banana bread a delightful, soft crunch. Check out more info here – Banana Nut Bread.

How to Store Banana Bread:

Let the banana bread cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.

Allow to cool to room temperature prior to storing in an airtight container at room temperature. You can store individual slices or the whole loaf. Properly stored, this bread will stay fresh on your kitchen counter for up to 4 days.

Can I freeze healthy banana bread?

YES! This recipe is wonderfully freezer friendly.

Let the banana bread fully adjust to room temperature prior to storing in a freezer-safe container (or zip-top bag). You can freeze individual slices or the whole loaf – keep in mind that slices will defrost much faster.

If you’re freezing slices, use sheets of parchment paper to separate them so they don’t stick together.

Cream Cheese Fruit Dip is a quick and simple recipe that’s easy to customize with different add-ins! Cream cheese is all dressed up with heavy whipping cream, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract and the sweetener of your choice.

If you love dessert dips, satisfy your sweet tooth with more recipes like Caramel Apple Dip, Cannoli Dip and Caramallow Dip!

a strawberry being dipped in cream cheese fruit dip amongst a platter of fruit.

Cream cheese fruit dip is one of the easiest dips to toss together with a handful of inexpensive ingredients! You only need cream cheese, vanilla extract, Greek yogurt, heavy whipping cream and a sweetener like honey or powdered sugar to whip up this dip.

Whether you serve it as a dessert, at a picnic or as an appetizer, you’ll love watching it disappear quickly. It’s loved by everyone from kids to grandparents!

Why we love this Fruit Dip recipe:

  • No Bake – I love a recipe I don’t need to preheat the oven for. This no-bake dip recipe is so simple to toss together all in one bowl!
  • Versatile – There are so many different ways you can customize this fruit dip recipe! Make it chocolate peanut butter, lemon lime, maple cinnamon… or add in your favorite flavors! The possibilities are endless.
  • Inexpensive – You might already have everything you need to make this cream cheese dip recipe in your kitchen right now! All of the ingredients are super budget-friendly and easy to find at the grocery store.
  • Kid Friendly – Yes! The little ones love this fun, fruity dip. It’s a great recipe to use to get them to eat some nutrients (from the fruit dippers) and some protein (Greek yogurt)!

Ingredients Needed for Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

ingredients for cream cheese fruit dip in glass bowls.
  • Cream Cheese – The star of the show! I recommend using regular cream cheese, not low-fat. Low-fat cream cheese won’t be quite as thick and creamy.
  • Greek Yogurt – I like using plain Greek yogurt with no added flavors, but there’s certainly room for creativity here!
  • Vanilla Extract – This adds just the right amount of depth to the sweetness.
  • Powdered Sugar – Feel free to swap this with honey or any other sweetener you prefer.
  • Cream – Do not swap the heavy cream with any other dairy product! You need it to achieve the right consistency.

How to make Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

Here’s a quick look at how to whip up the very best fruit dip! Keep scrolling for more detailed ingredients and step-by-step instructions.

  • Beat the cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add the powdered sugar and beat until incorporated.
  • Beat in the heavy cream and vanilla until incorporated.
  • Beat in the yogurt until smooth.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Chocolate Peanut Butter: Calling all Reese’s lovers! Mix in 2 tbsp of peanut butter and 1 tsp cocoa powder.
  • Lemon Lime: Craving something more tangy? Stir in 1 tsp lime zest, 1 tsp lemon zest and 1-2 tbsp of either lemon or lime juice.
  • Maple Cinnamon: Stir in 2 tbsp of maple syrup instead of powdered sugar. Just a pinch (¼ tsp) of cinnamon warms things up a bit!
  • Customize it! This recipe is easy to add to with your favorite flavors.
variety of fruit dip flavors on a board with fruit.

How to store Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

In an airtight container in the fridge, cream cheese fruit dip will stay fresh for 4-5 days. However, once fruit actually gets dipped into it, it’s best enjoyed immediately. Any new bacteria introduced from the dippers will cause the dip to spoil in a shorter time.

Can I freeze Cream Cheese Fruit Dip?

Sure thing! Keep it stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Let it slowly thaw in the fridge prior to serving.

You may notice the texture is not as thick — this is because the cream deflates some as it thaws. It won’t affect the quality or the flavor!

What kind of fruit do you serve with Cream Cheese Fruit Dip?

Enjoy cream cheese fruit dip with grapes, strawberries, bananas, apple slices or really any other fruit you like best! Dippers like graham crackers and cookies are also pretty tasty.

Serving suggestions:

Serve this party dip as an appetizer or dessert. It’s pretty versatile, and there’s really no bad way to serve it!

Ingredients Needed:

Top view of ingredients needed to make Cinnamon Roll Casserole.
  • Cinnamon Rolls: refrigerated tubes of cinnamon rolls are best for this recipe, providing the foundation of this dish.
  • Salted Butter: to bring a rich, buttery flavor to the casserole.
  • Milk: any kind will work, including non-dairy milk.
  • Pure Maple Syrup: adds sweetness and an amazing maple flavor to the dish. You could use another sugar if you do not enjoy the flavor of maple syrup.
  • Eggs: to bind the casserole together.
  • Vanilla Extract: adds a hint of aromatic sweetness to the syrup mixture.
  • Cinnamon: added cinnamon makes this casserole extra spiced and festive.

How to Make Cinnamon Roll Breakfast Casserole

This simple recipe is quick and easy to make. Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Prepare equipment: Preheat the oven, coat the bottom of your baking dish with nonstick spray, and pour in the melted butter.
  2. Chop cinnamon rolls: Cut the cinnamon rolls into 4 pieces each.
  1. Add rolls to dish: Put the pieces of cinnamon roll into the dish in a single layer.
  2. Make syrup mixture: Whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  1. Pour mixture into dish: Pour the mixture over the cinnamon roll pieces in the dish.
  2. Bake and add frosting: Bake until light golden brown and puffed. Let it cool, add the packaged frosting on top, and serve.

How do I store Cinnamon Roll Breakfast Bake?

Once your cinnamon roll breakfast bake has cooled to room temperature, place it in an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

Warm casserole slices in the microwave or oven before serving. If you have leftover frosting or cream cheese icing, store it separately in its container in the refrigerator. Drizzle it on top of the cinnamon rolls when you’re warming them up for the best results.

Can I freeze Cinnamon Roll Casserole?

For longer storage, you can freeze the casserole either before or after baking it.

Wrap the dish in plastic wrap to freeze it. Alternatively, freeze individual portions wrapped in a zip-loc bag. They can be frozen for up to a month. When you’re ready to enjoy, thaw in the refrigerator and warm up as desired.

Top view of Cinnamon Roll Casserole with a slice taken out of it.

Tips and Notes

  • Prep it ahead of time: You can prepare the casserole and cover it in plastic wrap, then refrigerate it overnight. It’s perfect for those wanting to do the prep work the night before and bake it fresh the next morning.
  • Bake it properly: To get that perfect golden brown top to the casserole, make sure your oven temperature is correct. Overbaking can cause the casserole to dry out while underbaking might leave the center too gooey. Aim for a light golden brown and puffy appearance.

Cinnamon Roll Casserole Variations

  • Orange Roll Casserole: Add the zest and juice of one orange to the egg mixture for an orange twist!
  • Use another topping. You can top this casserole with a Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, or Whipped Creamif you prefer extra decadence!
Close up of Cinnamon Roll Casserole with a fork taking out a slice.

Serving Suggestions

This casserole pairs beautifully with a side of fresh fruit. Try a selection of your favorite fresh berries or sliced bananas. The natural sweetness and tartness of fruits will balance the richness of the casserole.

It’s perfect with a cup of coffee or try my Cold Brew Coffee or Caramel Frappuccino for a cool coffee drink instead.

I love to serve something sweet with something savory at breakfast, so I love to add this Air Fryer Bacon (or cook your Bacon in the Oven) or these Breakfast Potatoes to the table.

stack of chai cookies with bite out of top cookie on white surface.

These Chai Cookies combine two of my favorite things: cookies and warm chai spices!

There are a lot of spices needed to make a truly delicious chai mix, but the effort is worth it (and you can sub in a prepared mix if you have one!).

Filled with all the delicious fall flavors, these chai sugar cookies are perfect for cozy nights by the fire with a cup of your favorite chai tea!

They’re made with a cinnamon sugar coating, like in my Snickerdoodle Recipe, for even more spiced goodness.

Whether you’re a huge chai fan or just looking for the perfect cookie to share with friends and family, this recipe is sure to impress.

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients for chai cookies in glass bowls on grey surface.
  • Butter: I use unsalted butter here to better control the salt content in the cookies. Make sure it’s at room temperature before mixing.
  • Sugars: white granulated sugar and brown sugar are both used in these chai cookies to give them a great texture, color, and depth of flavor. We’ll use the white sugar for the coating too.
  • Oil: a neutral flavored oil like canola oil or vegetable oil will help keep the cookies moist.
  • Egg: to bind the ingredients.
  • Vanilla: vanilla extract blends well with the spices, adding a sweet warmth to the cookies as well.
  • Flour: all-purpose flour is perfect here. I haven’t tried this recipe with other types of flour.
  • Cream of Tartar: a fool-proof way of giving these cookies their chewy texture (you can skip if you don’t have any).
  • Baking Soda: to help the cookies rise slightly to be light and fluffy.
  • Spices: use a combination of ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, cardamom, ground nutmeg, and allspice for the chai flavor. You’ll need cinnamon for the coating too. You can swap this out with 1.5 teaspoons chai spice mix.

How to Make Homemade Chai Cookies

This recipe comes together easily! Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Beat butter, sugars, and oil: Beat the butter, sugars, and oil together.
  2. Add egg and vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until combined.
  1. Mix in the dry ingredients: Add the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, and allspice.
  2. Scrape sides of bowl: Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure you’re using all the ingredients.
  1. Coat dough balls in cinnamon sugar: Make cookie dough balls and roll them into a cinnamon-sugar mix.
  2. Place on sheet and bake: Place 6 dough balls on each cookie sheet, and bake.

How do I store Chai Cookies?

Once your cookies have cooled to room temperature, store them in an airtight container or in a Ziploc bag on the counter for up to 7 days.

Can I freeze Chai Cookies?

Yes! Freezing these Chai Cookies is a great way to get a head start on your holiday treat prep.

Once the cookies have cooled to room temperature, store them in a freezer-safe container with parchment paper between each layer to keep them from sticking together. They’ll last in the freezer for up to 2 months. Defrost at room temperature when you’re ready to serve them again.

Alternatively, you can make the cookies up to the point of baking them and freeze the unbaked cookie dough balls. Simply flash-freeze the cookie dough balls on a lined baking sheet, then put them in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. You can then bake them fresh from frozen, adding a couple of minutes to the baking time!

Tips and Notes

  • Get the correct measurements. Use a digital kitchen scale to measure your dry ingredients for the most accuracy with this recipe, where needed. Measuring spoons are fine for measuring out the spices.
  • Mixing tools. Use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment if you have one, or a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, to mix your cookie dough efficiently.
  • Cookie scoop. I like to use a 2 tablespoon cookie scoop for most cookies! I love that they all come out the same size.
  • Taylor Swift Chai Cookies. If you’re a Taylor Swift fan (or if you keep up with TikTok), you’ll have no doubt seen Taylor Swift’s Chai Cookies. Simply make an eggnog glaze to finish off these cookies instead of the cinnamon sugar coating I’ve used here to get the same effect.
  • Add chocolate. Add some white chocolate chips to the dough for a chocolatey twist on this chai sugar cookie.

Serving Suggestions

These cookies pair perfectly with a glass of cold milk or a hot cup of chai tea on a cold, wintery day!

  • Roll the cookie dough into 1″ cookie dough balls and roll them in cinnamon sugar. Place 12 of the dough balls on each cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, until slightly puffed but not browned, they may have a slight sheen but not be gooey in the middle. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.

Notes

Ingredients and Substitutions:

  • Butter: salted or unsalted butter will work just fine here!
  • Flour: be sure to fluff or weigh the flour — this will help you to get thick, chewy cookies that are not thin or dry.
  • Cream of Tartar: this helps to give the cookies a great chewy texture. You can omit if you must but I really recommend trying it!
  • Spices: the spice list is long because we are essentially making our own chai spice. You can substitute this with 1½ teaspoons of prepared chai spice mix, or reduce or increase the spices according to your tastes. These cookies have a mild spice flavor, so there is room to add more if you like a really strong chai flavor.

Storage

  • Storage: Once your cookies have cooled to room temperature, store them in an airtight container or in a Ziploc bag on the counter for up to 7 days.
  • Freeze Cookies: Once the cookies have cooled to room temperature, store them in a freezer-safe container with parchment paper between each layer to keep them from sticking together. Defrost at room temperature when you’re ready to serve them again.
  • Freeze Cookie Dough Balls: Make the cookies up to the point of baking them, and freeze the unbaked cookie dough balls. Simply flash-freeze the cookie dough balls on a lined baking sheet, then put them in a freezer-bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. You can then bake them fresh from frozen, adding on a couple of minutes to the baking time!

Homemade Apple Crisp is made with a sweet fresh apple filling and a crunchy streusel crumb topping made with crispy oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon for a deliciously warming sweet treat! It’s the perfect dessert during the fall or cold winter months, especially when served with a scoop of my homemade vanilla ice cream!

Apple Crisp is probably our favorite fall dessert here at The Recipe Rebel!

It’s just hard to beat that soft, gooey fruit filling with the crunchy streusel — pair it with half-melted vanilla ice cream and it’s a dreamy combo!

Of course, you can enjoy it any time of the year and I love using this streusel recipe to make Peach Crisp, Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp or Rhubarb Crisp or even Pineapple Crisp! It’s so easy to mix and match the fruit you have for the filling.

The classic combination of apples and cinnamon is what makes this comforting dessert perfect for fall — the smell that comes out of the oven when it is baking is one of my favorite in the world!

This recipe, made with simple ingredients and just a couple of easy steps, takes just under an hour to make.

It’s perfect for dessert during the week, after dinner parties, and even for the holidays (with a great option to make it ahead of time)!

Ingredients Needed:

overhead of ingredients for apple crisp in a glass bowls.
  • Apples: I use tart apples for this recipe for that classic crisp apple flavor, but you can use any kind of apples.
  • White Sugar: White granulated sugar adds sweetness to the apple filling.
  • Cornstarch: to thicken the apple mixture as it bakes for a thick and juicy filling.
  • Cinnamon: ground cinnamon will add a deliciously spiced warmth to the dessert.
  • Oats: rolled oats will give the crumble topping a great texture and also crisp up better than other types of oats. You can substitute for quick oats in a pinch.
  • Flour: use all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour, depending on your preference.
  • Brown Sugar: lightly packed brown sugar sweetens the crisp topping.
  • Butter: cold butter will work well to bind the crispy topping and help it bake.

How to Make Apple Crisp

This recipe is quick and easy! Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Combine crisp topping ingredients: Add oats, flour, brown sugar, and cold butter to a bowl.
  2. Make topping: With a pastry cutter, fork, or even your hands, mix the topping ingredients until combined.
  1. Mix apple filling ingredients: Stir together apples, white sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon until the apples are coated.
  2. Add topping and bake: Crumble the oat mixture over the fruit in the pan and press down slightly. Bake for 40-50 minutes, and serve warm.

Apple Crisp FAQs

Can I use frozen fruit or canned fruit for Apple Crisp?

Yes! Fresh, frozen, or canned fruit can be used to make Apple Crisp. I prefer fresh apples here as they’re easily accessible all year round, but canned and frozen will work well too. You don’t have to adjust the recipe, but If you use frozen fruit and you like a thick fruit filling, increase the corn starch to a ⅓ cup.

How do I store Apple Crisp?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Allow it to cool to room temperature before putting it in the fridge.

Can I freeze Apple Crisp?

Yes! I love Crisp desserts because they freeze so well, and can even be freshly baked from frozen (if your dish is ok to go from freezer to oven)! Store it in a freezer-safe container and freeze it for up to 4 months. Freeze it before or after baking it, the only difference will be how you reheat or bake it.
To reheat: You can bake a frozen and previously unbaked Crisp dessert by first leaving it on the counter for a couple of hours to thaw a bit or bake it from frozen if you need. After the specified baking time, if it is still frozen in the middle, cover it in foil and continue to bake. If baking it from frozen after it’s been cooked already, let it fully defrost and cover it in foil before putting it in the oven.

Apple Crisp Variations

  • Mix up the fruit. You can easily use different kinds of fruit or berries to change the flavor of this classic dessert. Try peaches like in my Peach Crisp or mixed berries with apples, pears, or rhubarb.
  • Add flavor. Add some extra warmth with nutmeg or vanilla extract. Or add some lemon juice or zest to the fruit filling for a burst of fresh citrus flavor.
  • Keep the peel. I often peel and chop my apples for Apple Crisp, but you can leave the peel on. It’ll save you time and add more nutrients, but the texture will differ slightly.

Notes

Ingredients and Substitutions:
Apples: I like to use granny smith apples when possible but any firm baking apple will work: Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala work as well.
Cinnamon: I added just a bit of cinnamon to this recipe so that it wasn’t overpowering. If you really like cinnamon, you can increase to 1 teaspoon or add some in the topping as well.
Oats: I prefer rolled oats for texture but quick oats will work in a pinch. Steel cut oats will not work in this recipe.
Flour: almost any kind of flour will work here, even gluten free! Gluten free oat flour would be my first choice for making this recipe gluten free.

These Cinnamon Roll Bites are the easiest way to get that amazing cinnamon roll flavor, and they’re ready from scratch in just 40 minutes! They’re a delicious treat, perfect for a lazy morning, or a yummy pick-me-up in the afternoon!

a hand pulling a cinnamon roll bite of a white dish.

Cinnamon, sugar, and butter just make everything better, am I right?

We love a traditional cinnamon roll, especially as the days get cooler and all you want is some fresh, hot, sugary bread straight from the oven to warm you up!

I’ve already shared the BEST Cinnamon Buns recipe with you, but I just love these little bites.

This is one of the easiest recipes I’ve made for cinnamon roll treats, so it’s a win-win!

This easy treat is perfect for the holidays, to have them as part of your sweet breakfast spread, or just to snack on!

These bites are very similar to what I use in my Monkey Bread recipe, except the balls are cooked in one layer and there’s no yeast required (less waiting!).

Not using yeast in this recipe means this biscuit dough comes together in 5-10 minutes max, but the flavor and texture are still amazing.

You can even make the dough balls the day before, quickly finish them up, and bake them fresh in the morning.

All of this gives you more time for sleeping and spending time with family on busy holiday mornings, with a warm, cinnamon treat for all your not-so-hard work.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me 😉

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients for cinnamon roll bites in glass bowls on grey surface.
  • Flour: all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, or a mix of both will all work well too.
  • Baking Powder: a quick-rising agent that will work fast so these bites are on your plate promptly!
  • Salt: to enhance the warm, sweet flavors in these sweet treats.
  • Butter: unsalted butter is best in this recipe. Make sure it’s cold from the fridge before using it for the biscuits. You’ll need to melt some for the cinnamon sugar coating.
  • Milk: whole milk, lower-fat milk, or even dairy-free milk is fine here to help bind the biscuit dough and the glaze.
  • Sugar: use a mix of brown and granulated sugar to get a slightly caramelized flavor for the coating.
  • Cinnamon: ground cinnamon is the star of the show here.
  • Icing Sugar: icing sugar, or powdered sugar, is the base of the sweet glaze.

How to Make Cinnamon Roll Bites

This recipe couldn’t be easier! Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Make the dough: stir together the dry ingredients, then add the butter until crumbly. Add just enough liquid so the dough comes together.
  2. Make cinnamon sugar: In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Coat dough balls in the melted butter, then coat them in the cinnamon sugar mixture, and place them in the pie plate.
  4. Bake. Bake until the biscuits are cooked and the butter/sugar mixture is bubbling in the bottom of the pan. Drizzle with glaze before serving.

Cinnamon Roll Bites FAQs

Can I make these cinnamon roll bites ahead of time?

Prep these cinnamon roll bites and keep them in the fridge or freezer, ready to be baked later on.
Fridge: Wrap the little balls of dough tightly in plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator for up to one week. Biscuit dough stores perfectly in the fridge, so this is a great recipe to prep ahead for a weekend brunch or treat.
Freeze: You can roll your biscuit balls, coat them in sugar, place them in the pan, cover them with plastic wrap and foil, and freeze them completely. Once frozen, the balls can be stored in a Ziploc bag for easier storage. Keep frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw on the counter in a single layer for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before baking as directed. You may need to increase the cooking time by up to 5 minutes.

How do I store cinnamon roll bites?

Keep cinnamon roll bites in an airtight container on the counter for 2 days. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Make sure they’re fully cooled to room temperature before storing them.

Can I freeze cinnamon roll bites?

Yes! Cool to room temperature and then cover with plastic wrap and foil and freeze up to 3 months.
To reheat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake, covered, for 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

spoon drizzling glaze onto pan of cinnamon roll bites.

Tips and Notes

  • Aluminum Foil: If you’re using a pie plate smaller than 10″, place a piece of tin foil in the oven under the plate to catch any possible drips.
  • Yield: A single batch will make around 25 bites. You can double it to make enough for a larger crowd, but make sure the dough is the right consistency before making the dough balls.

Cinnamon Roll Bites Variations

  • Biscuit dough. You can use store-bought biscuit dough for this recipe if you prefer. It’s an even quicker, easy way to make them, you don’t need to make any changes to the recipe!
  • Flour. I’ve made this recipe with 100% whole wheat flour before, and it turns out great! It’s a great way to add more fiber.
  • Dairy-Free. You can easily make these Cinnamon Roll Bites dairy-free. Simply swap the butter for non-dairy margarine and the milk for almond or oat milk.
  • Flavor the glaze. Add some vanilla extract, lemon juice, or orange juice to the glaze to give it more flavor.

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

two cinnamon raisin scones on baking sheet with raisins around.

This post has been sponsored by California Raisins and I was compensated for my time spent creating this recipe. As always, all opinions are my own.

There’s nothing better than having a freshly baked Cinnamon Raisin Scone to go alongside that afternoon cup of coffee.

Scones have the best combination of textures — a golden, slightly crunchy exterior that gives way to a tender and buttery interior. They are the perfect complement to your favourite hot beverage or a tall glass of milk.

These Cinnamon Raisin Scones are made with the help of California Raisins.

California Raisins are the closest source of raisins for Canadians, and we love them in both sweet and savoury recipes!

They are always plump and sweet — a fabulous way to incorporate more fruit into your diet and the most convenient (no sugar added!) snack. Our kids love throwing a handful into their lunches or swapping out the chocolate chips in this Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe for the best Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients needed to make cinnamon raisin scones.
  • Flour: I use all purpose flour in this recipe, but when baking for my family I often swap all purpose for whole wheat in many baking recipes without fail. I recommend only swapping up to 50% of the flour for whole wheat to ensure they stay light and aren’t too dry.
  • Sugar: I have only tested this recipe with granulated sugar, so I cannot comment on swapping for sugar substitutes or brown sugar. If you try it, let me know how it goes!
  • Baking Powder and Baking Soda: I use a combination to ensure the lightest. flakiest scones. Yes, you need them both.
  • Cinnamon: ground cinnamon adds warmth and a bit of spice.
  • Salt: salt is just as important in baking and desserts as it is in savoury dishes. It balances out all the flavors.
  • Cold Salted Butter: cold butter is important here, because the tiny clumps will melt in the oven and create a beautiful flaky texture — absolutely essential in a good scone!
  • California Raisins: to add flavour and texture!
  • Buttermilk: the acidity in buttermilk is key here, and store-bought is the best way. It reacts with the baking soda to product a light and airy scone.
  • Egg: an egg adds structure to the scones and makes them super soft.
  • Glaze: the glaze is made up of powdered sugar, cinnamon and a bit of milk. Add the milk very gradually so that it stays thick!

How to make Cinnamon Raisin Scones:

This is just a brief overview! You’ll find the step-by-step instructions down in the recipe card.

  1. Stir together the dry ingredients.
  2. Add the cold butter and work in until pea-sized chunks remain.
  3. Stir in the wet ingredients: egg and milk.
  4. Add the California raisins and knead on a lightly floured surface just until no longer sticky (be careful not to work in too much flour or they will be tough).
  5. Shape into a disc, then cut into 8 triangles.
  6. Place on a baking sheet and bake just until golden, then top with glaze if desired.

Scone FAQs

What are scones?

Scones are a quick bread of British origin. They are shaped from a disc of dough that is cut into triangles and baked until golden. Scones are slightly drier than a biscuit, with a crisp crust but a buttery, crumbly interior. They are the perfect complement to a hot drink or glass of milk.

What’s the difference between British scones and American scones?

There are so many different versions of scones these days that it can be hard to distinguish between the two.
British scones are more often circular in shape and a little less sweet. They are also often served with toppings like butter and jam.
American scones can be a little denser and sweeter, and are less likely to be served with jam although they may include a glaze or frosting.

Can I freeze scones?

Absolutely! You can freeze scones before or after baking.
Before baking: shape and cut scones, then place on a baking sheet and freeze one hour or until firm. Place in a zip top freezer bag and freeze up to 3 months. To bake, place the scones on a baking sheet while the oven preheats, then simply pop them in the oven. Bake until light golden in color.
After baking: you can freeze baked scones after cooling completely by placing in a zip top freezer bag or container. To serve, I recommend thawing overnight and reheating in the oven or air fryer for a soft, crumbly texture. You can also microwave them. I recommend glazing just before serving.

Are scones supposed to be dry?

Scones may be flaky and a little crumbly (thanks to the crisp exterior), but they should not be dry or unpleasant to eat. The inside should be soft and moist.

two glazed cinnamon scones on white plate with cinnamon sticks.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Choose real butter: I have successfully made these raisin scones with hard, dairy-free margarine but real butter will give the best flavor and texture. However, if you need these to be dairy- free you can swap the butter and choose any non-dairy milk you enjoy drinking.
  • Don’t overwork the dough: the trick to a light and flake scone is not to overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will develop the gluten which will make the scones tough instead of tender.
  • Don’t add too much flour: I said it before and I’ll say it again — don’t add too much flour. When baking scones it’s important to go by feel more than measuring cups. Weighing your flour is the easiest way to start with the right amount, and when kneading you should add just enough so that it is not sticking to your hands when you form the disc. This will keep your scones light and airy.

Course Bread and Baked Goods
Cuisine American
Diet Vegetarian
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Servings 8
Calories 327cal

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (260 grams)
  • ¼ cup sugar (50 grams)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup salted butter (cold, cubed) 112 grams
  • cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup California raisins
  • milk or cream
  • granulated sugar

Glaze

  • cup powdered sugar
  • ¼-½ teaspoon cinnamon (depending on how strong you want the flavor)
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.
  • Add cubed butter and work in with a pastry cutter or fork until pea-sized chunks remain.
  • Add buttermilk and egg and stir until combined. Add California raisins and knead until dough comes together (don't overmix!).
  • Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead just until no longer sticky (tacky is fine but not overly moist and sticky). Shape into a disc roughly 8 inches wide and 3/4-1" thick. Cut into 8 triangles.
  • Place on prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with milk or cream and sprinkle with granulated sugar if desired.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until light golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 15-20 minutes before adding the glaze

Cinnamon Glaze

  • Stir together powdered sugar and cinnamon. Add just enough milk, gradually, until a thick glaze forms. (The thicker it is, the better it will set and firm up on the scones).
  • Serve.

Notes

Ingredients and Substitutions:
  • Flour: I haven’t tested this recipe with whole wheat flour, but I suspect it would work just fine. I recommend only using up to 50% whole wheat flour
  • Butter: cold, salted butter will give the best results. If necessary you can substitute with very cold, hard dairy-free margarine blocks but they may not be as crumbly. If you only have unsalted butter, you can add an extra pinch of salt.
  • Buttermilk: I don’t recommend substituting the buttermilk because the acidity helps the scones to rise and yields a flaky, fluffy texture. If needed you can make your own buttermilk.

Air Fryer French Toast is the perfect way to start your day! Made with crusty French bread in an eggy batter, it’s warmly spiced with cinnamon sugar and vanilla. Ready in just 15 minutes, it’s perfect for busy mornings and brunches!

Top view of french toast on plate with blueberries and strawberries.

We love French toast here, and it’s no wonder. It’s deliciously sweet, perfectly spiced, and it’s so easy to make!

French toast can be made in different ways like in the Slow Cooker or on the Stovetop, depending on how much time you have, and how you want to flavor it.

Making French toast in the air fryer is the best way I’ve found to get those deliciously crispy edges while keeping the inside soft and fluffy!

This quick breakfast dish is so versatile, it can be enjoyed on its own, with savory sides like eggs and bacon, or with sweet toppings like maple syrup and whipped cream.

It’s one of the easiest breakfast recipes to make, so it’s perfect for lazy days or busy mornings!

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients for air fryer french toast in glass bowls.
  • Bread: I like to use thick slices of French bread for French toast. It keeps together nicely when coated in the batter. If your bread is a few days old, that’s even better!
  • Sugar and Cinnamon: I use regular ground cinnamon and white granulated sugar for this recipe, but you can use an alternative sweetener if you prefer.
  • Milk and Eggs: they make the base of the batter for French toast. Use whole milk for the richest flavor, but lower-fat milk or dairy-free milk like oat milk will work ok as well.
  • Vanilla Extract: adds a warmness to the toast and compliments the cinnamon well.

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast

This French toast is super quick and easy to make. Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Make cinnamon sugar: Mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  2. Make egg mix: Mix the eggs, milk, and vanilla in a dish, then add in half of the cinnamon sugar.
  3. Mix: Whisk together until combined.
  4. Coat bread. Dip each bread slice in egg mixture on both sides. Remove from the egg mixture and allow excess to run off.
  5. Put in air fryer. Place in the prepared air fryer. Repeat with all of the bread slices that will fit. Sprinkle extra cinnamon sugar on top.
  6. Cook. Cook each slice, flipping and cooking until completely golden brown. Serve hot.

Air Fryer French Toast FAQs

Can French toast be prepped ahead of time?

Yes! Prepare the batter ahead of time and store it in the fridge up to a day in advance. Slice the bread and keep it covered for a few days as well, it can be better to use stale bread as it hold together better in the batter and still tastes great!

How do I store French toast?

French toast will last in the fridge once cooked for 3-5 days. To reheat, simply warm in the microwave, toast in the oven, or heat in the air fryer until heated through.

Can I freeze French toast?

Yes! Cook the French toast slices and let them cool completely before transferring them to a baking sheet in a single layer.
Put the full baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes, until the slices have just frozen.
Once frozen, transfer the slices to a ziplock bag and freeze for up to 3 months, separating them with pieces of parchment paper so they don’t stick together.
To serve, bake at 350ºF in the oven for 10 minutes (or until heated through), or reheat in the toaster or in the Air Fryer.

Tips and Notes

  • Flip. Make sure to flip the slices of bread over in the Air Fryer for maximum crispiness on both sides.
  • Stale bread. Bread that is stale will soak up the egg mixture better, and the crust will have softened slightly as well. If you don’t have stale bread, place your slices in the toaster (or in the air fryer!) for a minute or two to dry out slightly.
  • Slice thickness. 1 inch is the perfect thickness for French toast. Slices this thick are soft but still have enough structure to not get soggy in the batter.
  • Crispiness. Serve French toast immediately, where possible. When French toast comes out of the air fryer it is hot and crispy. The longer it stays out, the less crispy it will become.
  • Keep it warm. Keep cooked slices of French toast warm while you cook the rest by putting it in a dish in the oven set to 250ºF.
close up of syrup being poured on golden french toast.

Air Fryer French Toast Variations

  • Use another bread. You can use another type of bread to make French toast, like white bread or whole wheat bread. Slices of bread from a normal sandwich loaf may tear when you take them out of the batter, so use thick sliced bread or a heartier loaf for best results. Alternatively, try using brioche bread or cinnamon raisin for extra decadent French toast.
  • French toast sticks. Cut the slices of bread into small rectangle-like shapes, then coat them in the egg mixture and cook them in the air fryer to make French toast sticks. This is great for a buffet-style breakfast or for sweet snacks! Reduce the cooking time as necessary, keeping an eye to make sure the sticks don’t overcook.
  • Toppings. You can get creative with your toppings as French toast is such a versatile breakfast food. Spread with some butter and serve with eggs and bacon for something more savory (it even works well with tomato sauce!), or add maple syrup, Whipped Cream, Nutella, chopped nuts, etc.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this decadent French toast with fresh berries and fruit, with a light side of Easy Yogurt Parfait with Fresh Berries, or even this colorful Creamy Fruit Salad.

French toast makes a filling breakfast as it is filled with carbs and protein, it’s such a comforting way to start your day!

You can top your French toast with anything you like to suit your preference. Make it sweet with sweet syrups like maple, caramel, or chocolate, or use melted chocolate for a drizzle, with chocolate chips on top.

Make it savory by serving it with bacon, cooked egg, or an Omelette!

Ingredients

  • 6-8 slices french bread 1" thick
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (or another sweetener)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

  • Slice French bread into 1″ slices. Stir together sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F.
  • Whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla in a shallow dish until combined. (The dish should be big enough to lay a piece of your sliced bread in to fully coat it.) Then, add half of the cinnamon sugar, this will help to prevent the cinnamon from clumping.
  • Place a piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the air fryer basket and spray it with non-aerosol non-stick spray.
  • Dip each bread slice in egg mixture, making sure it is coated on both sides. Remove the slice of bread from the egg mixture and allow the excess batter to run off back into the dish. Place the slice laying flat on the parchment in the air fryer.
  • Repeat with all of the bread slices you can fit, in a single layer (you may have to do more than one batch). Sprinkle extra cinnamon sugar on top of the slices.
  • Cook the slices until they are golden brown, this will take about 5 minutes, before flipping them over and cooking until the other side is golden brown too.
  • Serve hot with fresh berries and maple syrup, or a dusting of powdered sugar!

Notes

To Store: Store cooked French toast in an airtight container or plastic bag in the fridge for 3-5 days.
To reheat, simply warm in the microwave, toast in the oven, or heat in the air fryer until heated through.

This easy Enchilada Sauce recipe is perfect for last-minute dinner times. It’s a no-cook recipe, so you can mix your ingredients and go! Quickly store a jar of sauce in the refrigerator, or mix it straight into your enchiladas!

jar of enchilada sauce with spoon scooping some out.

This is our favorite homemade enchilada sauce recipe, and it’s way better than the canned stuff!

We make all sorts of enchiladas around here. We love beef enchiladas but sometimes make them with pulled pork or shredded chicken too (like these tasty Easy Chicken Enchiladas!).

Whatever meat or filling you choose, you can’t beat a homemade sauce made with basic pantry staples.

This is a bit different from other from-scratch recipes as there is no cooking involved at all. It’s an easy recipe – simply put all the ingredients in a bowl and stir!

The sauce will cook through when it is heated in the dish, melding the flavors together and saving you time and energy!

If you love Mexican food, try some of our other favorite recipes like this Classic Three Bean Chili, this Easy Taco Soup, and my delicious Sheet Pan Fajitas.

We also like Cordon Bleu Chicken Enchiladas, which are made with Alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce for a creamy enchilada dinner.

Finish it off with my Strawberry S’mores Enchiladas for dessert!

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients needed for enchilada sauce recipe.
  • Tomatoes: use canned crushed tomatoes for this sauce, with no added salt. Plain, unseasoned tomato sauce will work as well.
  • Water: simply thins out our sauce to our desired consistency. You could swap for chicken or vegetable broth for added flavor.
  • Seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and kosher salt will make a flavorful enchilada sauce.
  • Spices: use cumin and chipotle powder (or smoked paprika), as well as ground cinnamon for an added warm flavor. Add in some cayenne pepper too for a spicy sauce.
  • Sugar: brown sugar will help to balance the acidity of the tomatoes if needed.

How to Make Enchilada Sauce

This easy red enchilada sauce is quick to make. You’ll find the full recipe in the recipe card below.

  • Combine ingredients: Add the following ingredients to a bowl and stir: tomatoes, water, garlic, cumin, onion powder, oregano, salt, and chipotle chili powder.
  • Add sugar: Add brown sugar to taste. Add additional spices here if wanting.
  • Use: Use sauce straight away, or store it for later.

Enchilada Sauce FAQs

What can I use in place of enchilada sauce?

If you don’t have enchilada sauce ready made, this is a great recipe to use. There’s no cooking or heating involved to make it, so it’s ready to go into your Mexican dishes in no time! You can often use Taco sauce in place of enchilada sauce, and salsa is a good substiture too.

How do I store enchilada sauce?

Store homemade enchilada sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Allow it to cool to room temperature before putting it in the fridge.

Can I freeze enchilada sauce?

You can freeze this red enchilada sauce in a freezer-safe container or Zip-loc bag for up to 6 months. Since it is so simple to prepare, I don’t usually bother freezing it, but I make sure to have a good supply of canned crushed tomatoes in the pantry so I can make it as and when I need it.

large glass measuring cup of enchilada sauce with whisk.

Tips and Notes

  • Simmer the sauce on the stove to bring the flavors together before using it if you prefer.
  • As this sauce doesn’t require any cooking, I tend to make it as and when I need it. It is a super simple recipe to double or triple for a big batch, and it will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge!

Enchilada Sauce Variations

  • Make a green enchilada sauce. Use chopped green chilis and jalapeños instead of canned tomatoes as the base and adjust seasonings to taste.
  • Spices and seasonings: Make this recipe your own by adjusting the seasonings to your preference. You can taste as you go.
  • Add some heat. Adding red pepper flakes, chili powder, or finely chopped jalapeños depending on your desired spice level.
  • Fresh ingredients. Use fresh garlic that you have minced yourself if you prefer.
  • Tomatoes: canned crushed tomatoes are my shortcut here, as many recipes use a mixture of tomato paste and water thickened with flour. Use 3 tablespoons of tomato puree paste and 2 additional cups of water or low-sodium vegetable broth. Add a cornstarch slurry to the mix, and cook it on the stovetop or in the microwave to thicken it.

Serving Suggestions

Use this red enchilada sauce in your enchilada recipes using any meat. You can also use it in recipes that call for a tomato salsa sauce, like my delicious Stuffed Pepper Casserole, this Chicken Taco Soup, or my Crockpot Salsa Chicken.

This Gingerbread Cake is moist, fluffy, and perfectly spiced with molasses, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Just 10 minutes to prep and the perfect Christmas dessert!

scooping a piece of gingerbread from a white pan.

Holiday season rolls around and I know we’re all craving those classic flavors: pumpkin spice, peppermint, cranberry, and of course gingerbread!

I’ve already got Slow Cooker Gingerbread Pudding Cake and White Chocolate Gingerbread Poke Cake, so I decided it was time to make a classic Gingerbread Cake. No frills, just flavor!

I know it might not look like much, but this Gingerbread recipe is so incredibly delicious. It is mildly spiced but has big flavor (perfect if you have those who might be gingerbread skeptics).

I love it plain with sweetened whipped cream but it’s also delicious with caramel sauce or cream cheese frosting.

It is so fluffy and moist and perfect for the holidays!

Ingredients Needed:

overhead shot of gingerbread ingredients.
  • Butter: melted butter gives the Gingerbread Cake a super moist texture but makes it easy to mix (no electric mixer required!).
  • Sugar: for sweetness, of course. It’s cake!
  • Eggs: gives the cake structure so it can hold shape.
  • Molasses: molasses is one of the signature flavors of gingerbread. It is rich and sweet!
  • Hot Water: added with the molasses to keep the cake moist.
  • All-Purpose Flour: spooned and leveled so you don’t end up with dry cake. You can likely sub for whole wheat flour, but I haven’t tried with this specific recipe so I can’t say for sure.
  • Baking Soda: to maintain a light and fluffy texture.
  • Spices: or cake is spiced with a mix of ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

How to Make Gingerbread Cake

Here’s a quick summary on making this gingerbread spiced cake. Full instructions can be found in the recipe card below!

  2. Add the dry ingredients: Add the flour, baking soda, and spices to the wet batter, then beat on low until smooth.
  3. Spread into prepared baking dish — you can also use a 12 cup muffin pan to make cupcakes.
  4. Bake: Spread the batter into a greased baking dish, then bake until a toothpick comes out clean.

a piece of gingerbread and whipped cream on a white plate..

Tips and Notes

  • Like it spicier? This cake recipe is light in flavor, so it isn’t overly spicy. If you prefer a stronger flavor, increase the spices each by ½ teaspoon.
  • Check the baking soda. It should be fresh. If it’s expired, it won’t serve its intended purpose which is to make the cake light and fluffy.
  • Grease the baking dish. This makes it so much easier to remove the cake without it sticking.
  • Check for doneness. To check that the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, it’s good to go. If it still has moist crumbs on it, it needs a few more minutes.
  • Top it off. This cake is great as-is, but feel free to top it with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, Whipped Cream, Maple Glaze, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
