This Green Bean Casserole recipe is made completely from scratch, with tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with bread crumbs and deliciously crunchy fried onions! It’s the perfect side dish for your Thanksgiving dinner!

a spoon lying in a white pan of green bean casserole on a white surface.

Green Bean Casserole is a classic Thanksgiving side dish that traditionally appears on holiday tables across America.

Being Canadian, Green Bean Casserole isn’t as big a thing on the holiday dinner table, and I took that freedom and ran with it 😉

Because we didn’t eat it growing up, I decided to make my own version just how I wanted to and paid little attention to tradition (sorry, no cream of mushroom soup here!).

Before you panic, we’re still getting that classic mushroomy flavor — we’re just making it from scratch with a creamy mushroom parmesan sauce instead.

And before you worry about the timing and effort of not using a can of soup, I assure you, it’s still an easy recipe, and once you taste it you may just change your mind.

The whole thing takes less than an hour to make, and you can prep it ahead of time if you like!

Ingredients Needed:

  • Bacon: thick-cut bacon works best in this recipe. Use your favorite brand.
  • Vegetables: use a combination of onion and crimini mushrooms for the sauce.
  • Seasoning: fresh garlic cloves, dried parsley, salt, freshly cracked pepper, paprika, and dried thyme will pack this dish full of flavor.
  • Flour: use all-purpose flour to thicken the sauce.
  • Cream: heavy cream is the base of the creamy sauce.
  • Whole Milk: full-fat milk will help you achieve the right consistency for the sauce.
  • Cheese: freshly grated Parmesan cheese will give you the best cheesy flavor in the sauce and topping.
  • Green Beans: fresh green beans are best for this recipe, but you can use frozen green beans that have been thawed, then dried with a paper towel.
  • Fried Onions: use French fried onions for that classic crunchy onion topping.
  • Bread Crumbs: Panko bread crumbs are perfect to mix with the onions and cheese for a crunchy texture.
  • Oil: any cooking oil like olive oil or vegetable oil will work well to bind the topping ingredients. You can also use melted butter for an added buttery flavor.

How to Make Easy Green Bean Casserole

This recipe has a few steps but they are all worth it! Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Cook bacon, onion, and mushrooms: In a large pan, cook the bacon, onion, and mushrooms.
  2. Add seasoning and flour: Stir the garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme into the mushroom mixture. Add flour and cook.
  1. Make into a sauce: Whisk in the cream and milk. Cook until thickened. Add Parmesan, adjust seasonings to taste, and set aside.
  2. Blanch green beans: Cook green beans in a large pot of boiling water so that they’re not completely soft. Drain and rinse under cold water. Put green beans in the bottom of a baking dish.
  1. Add sauce and bake: Pour the sauce over the top, then cover and partly bake it.
  2. Add topping, and bake: Combine fried onions, panko, Parmesan, and oil and sprinkle over the top of the casserole, and bake until golden brown.

Easy Green Bean Casserole FAQs

How do you make green bean casserole not soggy?

If your green bean casserole mix has thinned too much before being put in the dish, either add more heavy cream or make a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up. Bear in mind that it will thicken as it cools, and some of the liquid will also cook out when it’s baking.

Can I make green bean casserole ahead of time?

This casserole can easily be prepped ahead for the holidays. Simply prepare the sauce and the green beans, cool, and combine in a baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days before continuing with the recipe (you may need to add a few minutes to the bake time).

How do I store green bean casserole?

Store leftover green bean casserole once it has completely cooled, in an airtight container, or covered in plastic wrap, in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave or covered with foil in the oven.

Can I freeze green bean casserole?

I’d recommend freezing the casserole without the crispy topping, as it will likely soften as it defrosts. Prepare the sauce and green beans in a freezer-safe dish cover, and freeze for up to 3 months. Allow it to defrost thoroughly before part baking, adding the topping, and baking again.
Keep in mind that the texture of the green beans will be softer after freezing.

Tips and Notes

  • Blanching green beans: It’s important to use blanched green beans because they will continue to cook in the oven, and you don’t want them to be a soggy mess. Rinsing the parcooked beans in cold water, or giving them an ice water bath, stops them from cooking so they can start cooking again in the oven.
  • Change up the cheese: You can change up the kind of cheese you use. Gruyere, sharp cheddar, or Monterey cheese would work well, too!

Notes

Make Ahead
This casserole can easily be prepped ahead for the holidays. Simply prepare the sauce and the green beans, cool, and combine in a baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days before continuing with the recipe (you may need to add 10 minutes to the bake time).
Ingredients and Substitutions:
  • Bacon: you can omit the bacon to make this meatless side dish. Simply add a bit of oil to sauté your vegetables.
  • Mushrooms: my family is not a fan of mushrooms, so I often make this without them, and it’s still delicious!
  • Cream and milk: I do not recommend using lighter cream or low-fat milk as it can curdle with the long bake time. If you prefer, you could substitute the milk for chicken broth for a lighter, less rich sauce.
  • Fried onions: feel free to make your own if you prefer! I use French’s because, hey, they’re delicious (and easy!).
Storage
  • Store: Store leftover greens bean casserole once it has completely cooled, in an airtight container, or covered in plastic wrap, in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave or covered with foil in the oven.
  • Freeze: I’d recommend freezing the casserole without the crispy topping, as it will likely soften as it defrosts. Prepare the sauce and green beans in a freezer-safe dish cover, and freeze for up to 3 months. Allow it to defrost thoroughly before part baking, adding the topping, and baking again.

Cheesy Baked Asparagus is an easy side dish when you want a great depth of flavor but with very little fuss! With tender asparagus and a creamy cheesy garlic sauce, there’s a delightful crunch to the breadcrumb topping that makes this dish stand out from all the rest!

a fork scooping cheesy baked asparagus out of white baking dish.

This Cheesy Baked Asparagus recipe has been a game-changer! It mixes fresh asparagus with aromatic garlic, parmesan cheese, and heavy cream, all topped off with panko breadcrumbs for an amazing crunch.

We like a lot of vegetables in our house, and even though we do have some selective eaters, I can sneak a lot by when I cover them with cream and cheese. 😉

Asparagus is one of those vegetables that people either love or hate. Non-asparagus fans probably just haven’t had it cooked or served properly before.

But let me assure you – asparagus makes a delicious side dish when cooked and served correctly, and it really isn’t difficult to do!

We’ll eat asparagus with my Slow Cooker Sweedish Meatballs, and with my Creamy Garlic Instant Pot Chicken Thighs, as I find it a hearty but simple veggie to cook.

Asparagus can look beautiful on a plate when it’s cooked well, so it’s also a great option for dinner parties or special occasions. It is creamy, cheesy comfort food in veggie form!

This easy recipe is ready in just 20 minutes, so it’s the perfect side dish for last-minute prep for a weeknight dinner or a fancy meal.

Serve this baked asparagus alongside other vegetable side dishes like these Roasted Vegetables, Roasted Carrots, or this Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes recipe.

Ingredients Needed:

You only need a handful of ingredients for this cheesy asparagus recipe.

Top view of ingredients on grey surface.
  • Asparagus: use fresh asparagus for best results, you’ll need a bunch of it about 1 lb, with the ends trimmed.
  • Cream: heavy cream is perfect to give this dish that creamy, comforting flavor and texture. If you use a lighter cream, you risk the change that it will curdle as it cooks and not form as thick a sauce.
  • Cheese: use a block of parmesan cheese that you can grate yourself for the best flavor.
  • Salt: kosher salt will enhance all the flavors.
  • Garlic: fresh garlic that you mince yourself is best here to get a superior flavor, but you can use garlic powder or pre-minced garlic in a pinch (though the amount needed may vary).
  • Pepper: freshly cracked black pepper will give the asparagus a slight peppery spice kick that is delicious!
  • Bread Crumbs: use Panko breadcrumbs to get that crunchy texture on top.

How to Make Cheesy Baked Asparagus

This is the easiest way to make amazingly flavorful asparagus. Full instructions are included in the recipe card below.

  1. Put asparagus in dish. Trim and place asparagus in the baking dish.
  2. Make sauce. Make the creamy sauce mixing all the ingredients for it in a small bowl or jug.
  3. Add sauce. Next, add the creamy sauce to the dish, pouring it on top of the asparagus.
  4. Add cheese and crumbs. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan and Panko bread crumbs on top of the asparagus and bake!

Cheesy Baked Asparagus FAQs

Do you have to boil asparagus before baking?

No, I never boil the asparagus before baking it. Asparagus should cook through fine in a preheated oven within about 15 minutes.

How long to bake asparagus?

I have found that asparagus cooks through within 12-15 minutes in a preheated oven at 425 degrees F. If you have particularly thick asparagus spears or very thin ones, this cooking time may vary. Check on the asparagus at the 10-minute mark if you have thin spears.

Can I make cheesy baked asparagus ahead of time?

This recipe has just a few minutes of prep time, but you can always stir together the sauce and refrigerate it until you’re ready to bake the asparagus.

How do I store Cheesy Baked Asparagus?

This recipe is best eaten right away, but you can refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days and reheat them in the oven (350 degrees for 10 minutes or until heated through).

Can I freeze this baked asparagus?

I do not recommend freezing this recipe, and I recommend using fresh asparagus to make this recipe and not pre-frozen.

Tips and Notes

  • Use fresh asparagus. Fresh vegetables will always give you the best set of flavors. Frozen asparagus will thaw to be quite soggy, which won’t be great for this dish.
  • Casserole dish. Use a casserole dish or roasting pan that is just big enough to hold the asparagus. If the sauce is spread too thin over the asparagus and dish, it will burn.
  • Cream: this recipe works because heavy cream will thicken on its own when cooked. A lighter cream will not thicken the same way. You can swap the heavy cream for light cream but your sauce will be thin.
Overhead close up of baked asparagus in white dish.

Cheesy Baked Asparagus Variations

  • Mix up the veggies. You can prepare all kinds of vegetables in this way. Green beans, carrots, mushrooms, and leeks are good choices.
  • Add some heat. Add some red pepper flakes to the dish to add a bit of spice.
  • Herbs. Almost any herbs will work well in baked asparagus. Try Italian seasoning if you’re making an Italian main. Basil, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, dill or cilantro would work well, depending on what your main dish is.
  • Cheese. Switch the cheese for Gruyere cheese, cheddar cheese, shredded Mozzarella cheese, or another of your favorite cheeses. Mix cheeses together for even more flavor!
  • Bacon. Add some chopped bacon to the top of the dish and let it get nice and crispy in the oven. The salty bacon flavor goes so well with asparagus and the salty cheese.
  • Honey. Asparagus goes well with honey. You could drizzle some honey on top of the dish before putting it in the oven, or toss the fresh asparagus in some honey before adding the breadcrumbs.

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic about 1 clove
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

These Jalapeño Poppers are pretty much everything you could want in an appetizer. Spicy? Yes. Creamy? Yes. Cheesy? Yes. Crispy? Also yes. I mean, come on. It doesn’t get better than this!

These poppers take just 10 minutes to prep and can be easily prepped ahead of time. They’re a total crowd-pleaser, are so darn easy to make, and are incredibly delicious.

Ingredients Needed:

overhead shot of jalapeno popper ingredients.
  • Jalapeño Peppers: the number you need will depend on how large they are and how much you fill them. I recommend grabbing a couple extra just in case. You can always use extras for Taco Dip or BBQ Chicken Jalapeño Popper Cupcakes!
  • Cream Cheese: you can use a block of cream cheese or a container, full fat or light. It won’t make a difference in this recipe!
  • Seasonings: we’re spicing up the filling with a simple combination of garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Cheddar Cheese: shred the cheddar finely so it incorporates well into the filling. You can use another cheese you have on hand if you prefer.
  • Bacon: finely chopped, cooked bacon adds the perfect smoky, salty crunch. You’ll need 2 thick-cut slices, or about 3-4 thin slices.
  • Panko Breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are the key to a crispy topping. You can skip them or use regular bread crumbs if you don’t have any!

How to Make Jalapeño Poppers

Here are some step by step photos to guide you! Please see the detailed recipe down in the recipe card.

  1. Prep the peppers: Slice the peppers in half lengthwise, then remove membranes and seeds.
  2. Make the filling: In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth, then mix in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add the cheese and bacon and stir to combine.
  4. Assemble and bake: Spread the cream cheese onto each jalapeño half, sprinkle the top with breadcrumbs, then line on a baking sheet. Bake at 425ºF until golden.

Jalapeño Popper FAQs

What to make with lots of jalapeños?

Jalapeño poppers! The base of this delicious appetizer is literally halved jalapeño peppers, so it’s a great way to use a ton of them.

Are Jalapeño Poppers spicy?

Naturally, Jalapeño Poppers are a little bit spicy. However, the seeds are much of what makes the peppers spicy. Removing them before assembling the poppers helps a ton with controlling the spice level.

Making ahead of time:

There are a couple of ways you can get these poppers prepped in advance. First, assemble the filling and store it in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Second, assemble the poppers without adding the Panko, then store them in the fridge for 1-2 days. When you’re ready to serve, simply add the Panko and bake as directed.

How to store:

Finished Jalapeño Poppers will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month. To reheat, thaw overnight in the fridge if frozen, then bake at 350ºF to warm and re-crisp.

jalapeno poppers on parchment paper with a white bowl of dip.

Tips and Notes

  • Pick the bigger jalapeños. Smaller will work too, but the larger ones are easier to fill.
  • Wear gloves! If you slice with bare hands, you’re in danger of the jalapeño juice getting all over your fingers. Touch your eyes with that and you’re in for an uncomfortable evening. I recommend wearing gloves. If you don’t have gloves, wash your hands very thoroughly (and multiple times) with soap, the proceed with caution when it comes to touching anything.
  • Cut the jalapeño lengthwise. Each half should basically be a mini platform for the filling to sit in/on top of. You can leave the stem on or cut it off.
  • Line the baking sheet. Lining the sheet with parchment paper helps prevent the poppers from sticking or burning.

Serving Suggestions

For ultimate crispiness, I recommend serving these poppers right away! They’re delicious on their own or with a side of Ranch dressing, blue cheese dip, or even Homemade Cheese Sauce.

This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan is a classic comfort food made healthier in the air fryer. Breaded chicken is air fried until golden and crispy, then topped with your favorite tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.

two air fryer chicken parmesan in air fryer basket.

Chicken Parmesan is one of those classic comfort foods that sounds good pretty much all of the time.

Now, I have classic Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Parmesan Foil Packets, and Healthier Skillet Chicken Parmesan, so of course I needed to bust out one of my favorite kitchen appliances with this Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan Recipe.

This recipe couldn’t be easier. It’s made with simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen and you need just 15 minutes to prep. Just slice and bread the chicken, pop it in the air fryer, and dinner is served.

Serve your Chicken Parm over a pile of Buttered Noodles or on its own with a couple of simple side dishes. This is a meal the whole family will love!

Ingredients Needed:

ingredients needed for air fryer chicken parmesan.
  • Chicken Breast: you’ll need 1 large boneless and skinless chicken breast or two small ones. I like to take one chicken breast and butterfly it because it cooks more quickly and evenly.
  • Eggs: whisked eggs coat the outside of the chicken to help the breading and seasonings stick.
  • Breadcrumbs: I use Panko breadcrumbs for the crispiest texture, but regular bread crumbs will work too.
  • Parmesan Cheese: mixed with the breadcrumbs to add salty, cheesy flavor.
  • Seasonings: a simple blend of Italian seasoning, salt, paprika, and black pepper gives your Air Fryer Chicken Parm just the right amount of flavor.
  • Tomato Sauce: use seasoned tomato pasta sauce for extra flavor.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella on top of the breaded chicken completes this classic comfort food.

How to Make Chicken Parmesan in an Air Fryer

This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan could not be easier. Dinner is prepped and on the table in just over 30 minutes!

  1. Prep the chicken: Butterfly the chicken to make two thinner pieces, then use a sharp knife to cut it in the middle all the way through. Pat dry.
  2. Bread it: In one shallow dish, whisk eggs. In another, combine breadcrumbs, some of the parmesan, and seasonings. Coat the chicken in the egg, then press it firmly into the breadcrumb mix.
  3. Air fry: Preheat the air fryer and spray the basket with oil spray. Spray both sides of the chicken with the oil spray, then place into the air fryer basket. Cook until light golden.
  4. Add the toppings: Top each chicken breast with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan. Cook until the cheese is melted, then serve as desired.

Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan FAQs

How long do you cook chicken breast in the air fryer?

That really depends on the size of the chicken breast you’re cooking. Since we slice our chicken into thinner pieces, it only takes about 10 minutes for it to cook all the way through. Since the total time can vary, I recommend checking the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to make sure it’s done. It should be 165ºF!

Any kind you want! Chicken parmesan is often served on top of a pile of pasta with marinara sauce. If that’s the route you’re going with this Air Fryer Chicken Parm, feel free, but the pasta shape you use really doesn’t matter! Just use your favorite.

How to store:

Chicken Parmesan is best eaten immediately but leftovers can be saved.
Leftover Chicken Parm will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw overnight in the fridge if frozen, then warm in the oven on convection mode or in the air fryer to re-crisp.

Can you reheat chicken parmesan in an air fryer?

Totally! To reheat the leftovers back in the air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 360ºF, add in the chicken, and cook for 5 minutes or until heated through.

Tips and Notes

  • Pat it dry. Before breading the chicken, pat it dry gently with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture. The less moisture there is, the crispier it will be.
  • Slice thinly. Slicing the chicken into thinner pieces allows it to cook more quickly and evenly.
  • Use Panko. Panko gives the chicken the crispiest texture. If you don’t have Panko, regular breadcrumbs will work too.
  • Preheat and grease the air fryer. Don’t forget to preheat and grease the air fryer basket with a non-aerosol oil spray. Preheating allows it to start crisping up right away and greasing the basket prevents the chicken from sticking.
  • Spray the chicken. Spraying the outside of the breaded chicken with cooking spray gives it that delicious golden-brown color.
  • Flip halfway through. After 5 minutes, flip the chicken in the air fryer to make sure it gets cooked and crispy all the way around.

Serving Suggestions

This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan is delicious on its own, but you can also round out your meal up by serving it over a pile of your favorite pasta with red sauce.

Try Creamy Tomato Rigatoni Pasta, Garlic Parmesan Orzo Pasta, your favorite pasta topped with a scoop of Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce, or even zucchini noodles for a lighter option.

If you know anything about me at all at this point, it’s that I love Air Fryer Recipes.

And while there are so many things you can cook in the air fryer, chicken may be one of my favorites (don’t know where to start? Check out my 15 Air Fryer Recipes for Beginners!)

These Air Fryer Chicken Tenders go to show just how amazing air fryers are. Juicy tenders are marinated in a mixture of buttermilk and Sriracha, dredged in breading and seasonings, and cooked in the air fryer until tender in the middle and perfectly golden and crispy on the outside.

Serve them with these Air Fryer Potato Wedges, Air Fryer Frozen French Fries, or Garlic Mashed Potatoes for a classic comfort food combo.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Buttermilk: I use low fat buttermilk but regular will work as well.
  • Sriracha Sauce: add more or less to taste.
  • Chicken Tenders: you’ll need 1 ½ pounds of chicken tenders for this recipe.
  • Breadcrumbs: we’re using both regular seasoned breadcrumbs and Panko breadcrumbs to coat the chicken.
  • All-Purpose Flour: the base of the breading which helps absorb moisture so the breadcrumbs can work their magic.
  • Seasonings: a simple blend of salt, black pepper, and paprika is all the breading needs to give the chicken just the right amount of flavor.
  • Oil Spray: we’re using oil spray to lightly grease the air fryer basket and to spray the outside of the chicken to help it get nice and golden.
ingredients needed to make air fryer chicken tenders

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

  1. Marinate: In a bowl, mix together buttermilk and Sriracha. Add in the chicken and marinate for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Bread: In a shallow baking dish, stir together Panko, breadcrumbs, flour, and seasonings. Pull the chicken out of the marinade and dredge each piece in the breading to coat.
  3. Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 400ºF, grease with oil spray, and add in the chicken. Air fry until golden and crispy.

Air Fryer Chicken Strips FAQs

Can you put raw chicken in an air fryer?

Yes! This recipe is designed for raw chicken tenders. They soak up the flavor from the marinade and hold the breading much better than frozen tenders do.

What temperature do you cook chicken tenders in an air fryer?

400ºF! This is just hot enough that the outside of the tenders gets nice and crispy, but not so hot that it burns before the inside is cooked all the way through.

How long do chicken tenders cook in the air fryer?

While this can depend on the size of your chicken tenders and your air fryer, I cook mine for anywhere from 10-12 minutes and they come out perfectly every time.

Can you cook frozen chicken tenderloins in an air fryer?

In theory, yes. But I don’t recommend it for this recipe. If all you have is frozen chicken, thaw it overnight in the fridge. If you’re shorter on time, thaw it quickly by placing it in a bowl of cold water until it’s fully thawed. Change the water out every 20 minutes or so to make sure it doesn’t get too warm.

Can you use chicken breasts instead?

Totally! You will just need to slice the chicken into smaller strips so they cook just as quickly as the tenders.

Can I make these in the oven?

Yep! No air fryer? Simply follow the recipe as instructed up until cooking. Then, instead of air fryer, place the breaded chicken tenders on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

How to store:

Air Fryer Chicken Tenders are best right away, but leftovers will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for 1-2 months. To freeze, place in a single layer on a baking sheet and flash freeze. Once hardened, transfer to a container. When you’re ready to enjoy again, thaw overnight in the fridge if frozen, then warm in the air fryer at 350ºF until heated through and re-crisped.

Tips and Notes for Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

  • Marinate it! Marinating the chicken for 20-30 minutes in buttermilk and Sriracha is optional, but definitely recommended. The acidity in the buttermilk tenderizes the chicken and the Sriracha adds a layer of delicious spicy flavor.
  • Use both breadcrumbs. The seasoned breadcrumbs add flavor while the Panko is what gives the chicken that golden color and extra crispy crunch.
  • Preheat the air fryer. You want the air fryer to be hot before you add in the chicken. If it’s heating up with the chicken inside, the outside can burn before the inside is cooked all the way through.
  • Spray the chicken. Lightly coating the chicken in cooking spray helps it get golden and crispy.
  • Don’t stack. The chicken tenders need room to breathe so they can get crispy all the way around.
  • Check the temp. The internal temp should be 165ºF. Check it before serving!

Serving Suggestions

These chicken tenders are delicious served on their own with a side of ketchup, mustard or honey mustard, Ranch dressing, spicy mayo, or BBQ sauce for dipping!

You can also make them into a meal by pairing them with Roasted Veggies, Mac and Cheese, Air Fryer Broccoli, Roasted Potatoes, or Garlic Parmesan Orzo Pasta!

crispy tilapia in air fryer basket with parsley and lemon slices

If you’ve never tried cooking seafood in the air fryer, then get ready for your life to change! After I made my air fryer salmon recipe, I knew that I needed to try more air fryer fish.

Tilapia is a great choice because it has a neutral flavor that pairs well with everything!

This Air Fryer Tilapia gives the salmon a run for its money! This recipe is made with tilapia fillets that are soaked in milk and egg, then coated in flour, breadcrumbs, and the perfect blend of seasonings. The result is tilapia that is deliciously moist and flaky on the inside yet golden-brown and crispy on the outside.

This recipe is simple, ready in 25 minutes, and makes the best light and healthy dinner!

Ingredients Needed:

This Air Fryer Tilapia recipe is made with just a few basic ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Tilapia: you’ll need 2 full tilapia fillets or 3-4 loins for this recipe.
  • Milk and Egg: coats the outside of the tilapia to add moisture and help the breading stick. Regular milk or buttermilk work great!

  • Seasonings: we’re using a flavorful blend of seasoning salt, Italian seasoning, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper.

  1. Prep: Preheat the air fryer and pat the tilapia dry with a paper towel.

Air Fryer Tilapia FAQs

What temperature do you air fry fish?

I find that the perfect temperature for air frying tilapia is 400ºF. This is a high enough temperature for it to get nice and crispy, but not so high that the outside burns before the inside is cooked through.

What temperature does tilapia need to be cooked to?

The tilapia should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145ºF. You’ll know it’s done cooking when the exterior is golden brown and the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Can I cook frozen tilapia in my air fryer?

Technically, yes. However, I recommend fresh or thawed tilapia for this recipe. Frozen takes longer to cook through and the breading can burn before the fish is fully done. Fresh or thawed tilapia also absorbs the flavor from the seasonings and holds the breading better!

How to store:

Leftover air-fried tilapia will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for 2-3 months. To reheat, thaw in the fridge overnight if frozen, then reheat in the oven or air fryer to warm and re-crisp.

Tips, Tricks, and Notes

  • Pat it dry. Before you season and bread the fish, pat it dry gently with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture. Too much moisture can prevent the exterior from getting. nice and crispy!
  • Preheat the air fryer. If the air fryer is heating up with the tilapia inside, the outside can burn before the inside is cooked all the way through.
  • Grease the basket. Be sure to grease the air fryer basket lightly with oil. This prevents the tilapia from sticking.
  • Another option is to line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to make it easier to remove the tilapia.
  • If you want to ensure even cooking, flip the tilapia halfway through the cooking time. If you do this, keep in mind that the fish is delicate, so be gentle.

Serving Suggestions

This air-fried tilapia makes the perfect healthy entree next to a side of Roasted Green Beans, Instant Pot Jasmine Rice or Brown Rice, Garlic Parmesan Orzo Pasta, or Air Fryer Broccoli.

Add a side of Garlic Bread for the finishing touch!

These Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks are a healthier version of a classic appetizer! They’re gooey, cheesy, golden-brown, crispy, and have all of the delicious flavors and textures of deep-fried cheese sticks but without all the excess oil.

One of my favorite parts about this recipe is that you can choose to cook and serve them right away OR you can freeze them to be air fried later on! Don’t we all love a good make-ahead recipe?

Serve them as quick and easy, kid-friendly snacks, or serve them at your next party with other easy cheesy appetizers like buffalo chicken dip, this Snickers Cheese Ball, and these Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Ingredients for Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

This air fryer appetizer is made up of simple, easy-to-find ingredients. Some of these you probably already have in your fridge or pantry!

  • Mozzarella Cheese Sticks: you can also slice your own mozzarella cheese sticks from a block of cheese, but ready-to-go cheese sticks make this recipe that much quicker.
  • Eggs and Milk: helps the breading stick to the cheese.
  • Panko Breadcrumbs and Flour: the flour helps absorb moisture while the breadcrumbs give the exterior of the cheese sticks that golden-brown color and crispy texture.
  • Seasonings: I use a simple blend of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder.

How to make mozzarella sticks in the air fryer

These air fryer mozza sticks take just 20 minutes to prep!

  1. Prep the breading: In one bowl, place ¼ cup flour. In a second bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. In a third bowl, mix together breadcrumbs, flour, and seasonings.
  2. Bread the cheese: Dip the mozzarella sticks in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. dip in the egg and the breadcrumbs once more for maximum crunch!
  3. Freeze: Place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, then freeze for at least 2 hours or for up to 6 months.
  4. Air fry: Air fry at 375ºF for 5-10 minutes or until golden-brown and crispy!

Air Fryer Mozza Sticks FAQs

How long should you air fry mozzarella sticks?

The mozzarella sticks only need 5-10 minutes in the air fryer to get deliciously golden-brown. I cook them first for 5 minutes then check to see if they need more time. If the bottoms are browning more than the top, I flip them over and air fry for an additional 5 minutes.

Do you need to preheat the air fryer?

Yes! Definitely preheat the air fryer to 375ºF before adding in the cheese sticks. This ensures that the outside starts crisping right away. If you don’t preheat the air fryer, the cheese will ooze out before the outsides are crispy.

How do you keep mozzarella sticks from exploding in the air fryer?

The best solution to prevent exploding cheese sticks is to bread them twice. I dip them in the flour, egg, and breadcrumbs, then repeat the egg and the breadcrumbs. This extra layer helps prevent the cheese from over-cooking which is what can cause the cheese sticks to explode.

Can you bake these mozzarella cheese sticks instead of air fry?

Totally! If you don’t have an air fryer you can bake the mozzarella cheese sticks instead. Simply preheat the oven to 400ºF, place the breaded cheese sticks onto a lightly greased baking sheet, and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden-brown and crispy.

How do you store mozzarella sticks?

Air-fried mozzarella sticks are best right away but they will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days in the fridge. To reheat, air fry again for 3 minutes to warm and re-crisp.reheat in the air fryer for 3 minutes.

Can mozzarella cheese sticks be frozen?

Absolutely, you can just freeze them before you cook them for a more extended period of time! Follow the instructions up until the mozzarella cheese sticks are frozen. Once they’re fully frozen you can transfer them to an airtight container and store them in the freezer for up to 6 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, cook as instructed. No thawing necessary!

Tips and tricks

  • Grease the basket. This helps prevent the cheese sticks from sticking.
  • Use non-aerosol spray. Aerosol products can damage the lining of the air fryer basket.
  • Cook in a single layer. The cheese sticks need room around them for the air to circulate. If they’re piled on top of one another, they’ll be soggy rather than crispy.
  • Spray the cheese sticks. I always spritz the outside of the cheese sticks with cooking spray before I air fry them. This helps them get deliciously golden-brown and crispy.
  • Play with seasonings. I love to keep the combination of garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning but you can totally get creative. Try the breading with taco seasoning, cajun seasoning, or add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to kick the heat up a notch.

Storage:
Air-fried mozzarella sticks are best right away but they will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days in the fridge. To reheat, air fry again for 3 minutes to warm and re-crisp.reheat in the air fryer for 3 minutes.
You can also freeze them before you cook them for a more extended period of time! Follow the instructions up until the mozzarella cheese sticks are frozen. Once they’re fully frozen you can transfer them to an airtight container and store them in the freezer for up to 6 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, cook as instructed. No thawing necessary!

This Air Fryer Fried Chicken is a 20-minute recipe for the best “fried” chicken! It’s tender and juicy on the inside with a perfectly golden-brown, crispy, and flavorful exterior. It’s a healthier, easier, less-mess alternative to classic fried chicken!

Do you ever just crave the tender, juicy, crispy deliciousness that is fried chicken? Yeah, me too.

Unfortunately, deep-fried chicken isn’t necessarily something you want to be eating all the time. Well, what if I told you that I had a fried chicken recipe you could enjoy pretty much whenever you want? Yep, you read that right.

This air fryer fried chicken (based off of my Oven Fried Chicken recipe) is the best way to satisfy those classic comfort food cravings in a healthier way! No deep frying, no excess oil, just tender, juicy, crispy fried chicken.

Fried chicken ingredients:

  • Chicken Breast: use boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I used 3 full chicken breasts cut into 3-4 even pieces each.
  • Buttermilk: tenderizes the meat and helps the exterior crisp up as the chicken cooks.
  • Flour and Panko Breadcrumbs: the breading for the fried chicken. Flour helps absorb moisture while the Panko is what crisps up in the air fryer.
  • Seasoning Salt, Paprika, Black Pepper, and Salt: I use Lawry’s Seasoning Salt along with a couple additional spices which gives the chicken so much flavor.
  • Canola Oil: used to grease the air fryer basket so the chicken doesn’t stick. You’ll also use cooking spray to coat the chicken after it’s breaded so it gets that golden-brown, crispy finish in the air fryer.

How to make air fryer fried chicken

Just 10 minutes to prep, 10 minutes to cook, and you’ve got perfect “fried” chicken ready to go!

  1. Prep the chicken: Slice the chicken breasts into strips (about 3-4 per breast), and add to a shallow dish. Pour buttermilk over the top, turning to coat the chicken.
  2. Coat with the breading: In a large freezer bag or baking dish, combine flour, breadcrumbs, and seasonings. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and coat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  3. Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 400ºF, brush the bottom of the air fryer basket with canola oil (a non-aerosol spray is best), then add in as much of the chicken as possible while leaving space between each piece. Spray the top of the chicken with oil spray, then air fry for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, flip the chicken, spray with oil again, and air fry for another 3-4 minutes. Repeat until all of your chicken is cooked.

How do you crisp chicken in an air fryer?

Here are a couple of things you can do to make sure you get the crispiest air fried chicken possible!

  • Let the buttermilk drip off. After you soak the chicken in buttermilk, remove it and hold each piece above the dish for a few seconds to let the excess drip off. You want enough moisture for the breading to stick, but not so much that the dry ingredients can’t absorb all the moisture.
  • Spray with oil. Use a non-aerosol cooking spray to coat the outside of the chicken pieces. This helps wet any dry flour spots and allows the breadcrumbs to get that golden color and crispy texture.
  • Leave space in the air fryer. Make sure that you leave enough space between the chicken pieces for the air to circulate. If they’re touching or stacked, then you’ll end up with some soggy spots.
  • Flip the chicken. After the first 7 minutes of cook time, flip the chicken, then finish cooking for another 3-4 minutes. This ensures that the air reaches all parts of the chicken pieces so they can get crispy all the way around.

Can I make this in the oven?

Absolutely!

This recipe is actually based off of my Oven Fried Chicken recipe that we all love so much, so you can head over there to find all the tips and tricks!

Can you use frozen chicken?

Although you can cook chicken from frozen in an air fryer, I don’t recommend it for this recipe. Frozen chicken won’t hold the seasonings and breading as well as thawed chicken will.

If all you have is frozen chicken, I recommend thawing it first. You can either thaw it overnight in the fridge or follow these steps to quickly thaw it:

  • Place the frozen chicken breasts into a large ziplock bag.
  • Set the bag into a bowl filled with room temperature water.
  • Let the chicken sit in the water, changing the water out every 20 minutes or so, until it has fully thawed.

Do you have to use buttermilk?

Yes, I definitely recommend using buttermilk. Not only does it add flavor, but the acidity helps break down the meat for more tender and juicy chicken.

If you don’t have buttermilk, you can easily make your own. To do so, whisk together the ¾ cups of milk with 2 ¼ teaspoons lemon juice or vinegar. Let that mixture sit for 10 minutes, then it’s good to go!

Can you use batter in an air fryer?

No! Definitely don’t use a wet batter for this air fryer fried chicken. Without the hot oil used to fry classic fried chicken, the batter has no way to set. Wet batter will just drip off the chicken and make a huge mess in your air fryer.

Tips and tricks for air fryer fried chicken

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re making air fryer fried chicken!

  • Slice evenly. Cut the chicken pieces similarly in size so they cook evenly.
  • Press the chicken into the breading. When you bread the chicken, press it firmly into the mixture so the breading can really stick.
  • Grease the basket. You’ll want to grease the air fryer basket before you add in the chicken so it doesn’t stick.
  • Check the internal temperature. Not all air fryers cook exactly the same, so I recommend using a meat thermometer to verify that the internal temperature of the chicken is 165ºF before serving.
  • Spice it up. If you prefer spicy fried chicken, add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to the spice blend.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, check out my pan fried chicken breasts or oven-fried chicken recipe instead!

Serving suggestions

I recommend serving this air-fried chicken right away for the best texture.

You can pair it with dipping sauces such as ketchup, ranch, or BBQ sauce or fill out your meal with your favorite side dishes. Here are a few suggestions:

How to store leftover fried chicken

Leftover fried chicken will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for 2-3 months.

To reheat, thaw in the fridge if frozen, then air fry at 400ºF for 4-5 minutes to warm and re-crisp.
